The Maple Plain Garden Club was organized in the Maple Plain school over 30 years ago. Regular monthly meetings have been held in the homes since that time. The membership is limited to 20 active, gardening members. We are affiliated with the Minnesota Horticultural Society from whom educational material is available which includes the Minnesota Horticulturist magazine. Projects are home gardens, plant exchanges, flower shows, exhibits at fairs and outside shows, and the acquiring and maintenance of the Maple Plain Village park.
On July 18, 19, and 20th, 1958, Maple Plain celebrated the one hundredth anniversary of the statehood of Minnesota. This turned out to be the biggest celebration our town ever had, complete with band concerts, beard judging, centennial costume judging, kiddie parades, stage shows, rides for the children, square dancing group, parade with decorated floats, and a dance at the village hall. Crowds came from far and near and taxed all facilities and available space. It all went off in good order, thanks to the good planning of the Maple Plain Civic and Commerce Association, our alert fire department and the American Legion Post No. 514, who were the sponsors.
